Call Media Vienna 2010

Deadline:Volumen:
09.03.2010 EUR 1 million

In recent years, the media sector has emerged as a focal point of the City of Vienna’s economic policy. This can be documented by the development of the Media Quarter Marx and the priorities set in respect to the monetary support provided to promote innovation (Call Media Vienna 2007, Call Motion Media Vienna 2008).

Due to developments and experienced gain in recent years, the Call Media Vienna 2010 will have three thematic priorities which naturally interlock in the age of media convergence, namely moving images, Internet and games. These three fields show by way of example and particularly demonstrate the opportunities and challenges of the media sector which is in a state of flux.

Projects can be submitted online up until Tuesday, March 9 2010 midnight.

Further information on tender specifications and submitting applications online are available in the Downloads section of this Website, or can be obtained from Ms. Astrid Stakne at +43 1 4000 86 161.

The Call Media Vienna 2010 targets small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Vienna as well as company founders and start up entrepreneurs who develop product, service or process innovations in the fields of moving images, mobile Internet and/or games and who aim to commercially realise these innovations.

The Call Media Vienna 2010 is looking to support projects whose aim or purpose is to:

  • increase the quality of recording, storage, archiving, transmission or playback of moving images and/or
  • to develop new mobile Internet applications (particularly for moving images), paying particular attention to usability and customer requirements and/or
  • focus on innovative developments in the field of games.

Projects can be submitted, if, for example, they focus on the following or applications or fields (demonstrative listing):

  • Streaming media technologies
  • Digital cinema
  • (Digital) camera technology
  • Mobile TV
  • Internet TV
  • New services and content “made for mobile“
  • Serious games
  • Location-based Services
  • 3D films

The projects must demonstrate a clearly comprehensible and feasible business model and provide a suitable basis to be commercially realised. In the context of the current call, purely artistic projects or creative-artistic innovations e.g. in the production of films or design of games are not eligible for funding.

Personnel expenses, investments in fixed (e.g. property, plant and equipment) and external services such as marketing concepts, feasibility studies or support in the technical implementation are eligible for funding. The funding quota is 35% for small-sized enterprises and 25% for medium-sized firms.

A total of EUR 1 million is available in funding this call. Cash grants of up to EUR 250,000 are possible for the best projects. Of course, smaller projects are also eligible for funding. The top placed application will also be given bonus prize money of EUR 15,000. The project which is ranked second receives a bonus of EUR 10,000, and the third place entry will be granted an additional EUR 5,000. Projects demonstrably shown to be managed by a qualified woman employed by the Viennese company submitting the application will receive a bonus of EUR 10,000 once the project is granted funding, provided that the maximum funding amount if not exceeded.

The funding is granted within the framework of a competitive tender process. An internal jury of experts lead by Petra Müller, Managing Director of Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, will evaluate all projects in May 2010 in line with a standardised assessment system and propose the best ones for funding.
