The City of Vienna leads international rankings due to its high quality of life and environmental standards. Vienna owes these favourable ratings not least to its innovative entrepreneurs who create products, technologies, strategies and services serving as the basis for a sustainably liveable city.

However, according to the calculated ecological footprint of the City of Vienna, each individual in Vienna person requires an area of 3.9 hectares, which is considerably higher than the targeted figures of 1.8 hectares per person.
Green technologies will be one of the top industries in the 21st century, not only in Vienna but globally, thus also serving as a job engine. At present, Europe has grabbed a global market share of 45 percent in some areas of environmental technology. International and national experience shows that the environmental engineering segment and renewable energies create a considerable number of new jobs and are a driving force for value creation.

For this reason, ZIT is supporting Viennese companies which want to develop, optimize or launch new products and services on the marketplace within the framework of its current focal point “Green Innovation 2011”.

Within the framework of the call “Green Innovation 2011“, funding is provided to innovative projects aiming at the efficient and sustainable use of natural resources. The focus is on the development and/or implementation of technologies with clearly perceptible positive environmental effects. The developed products, processes and services should serve a positive function in the ecological-economic system. In particular, it should offer solutions for the specific challenges of a “city” as a closed system.

Innovation Talk Green IT

"In every IT system one can realize potential energy savings of up to 50%, which can be reached by a whole spectrum of optimization measures spanning all areas of IT – often without large-scale investments.
